2005 activities chronology

25th of January 2005 BLL distributed the press-release with the statement on the homophobic policy of the BELTELECOM monopolist provider , which controls the external sluice and used to block the access to the Russian LGBT-resources.

10th of February 2005 BLL issued the press-release informing the large community that «The First Music TV-Channel» became the first company in Belarus , which officially proclaimed in its charter discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. As a result of the international info-campaign organized by BLL and bringing an action to the court by BLL activists, the TV-channel administration was forced to remove the homophobic paragraph from their charter.

6-9th of March 2005 BLL and apagay.com representatives took part in the RAM-7 (Re-Approachig New Media) http://www.ram-net.net/ international interdisciplinary forum. There were 3 main working groups in the framework of this project in Minsk :

- Education technologies and distance learning : the model of open universities;

- Science and arts interaction ;

- Collective creative work in the world of modern technologies.

(The initiator and co-ordinator of the project was Swedish media-laboratory CRAC).

11th of April Sergey Torpachev and Edward Tarletskii met the officer of the political department of the USA Embassy in Belarus Ms Kurson Relitz. The BLL activists informed the officer on the activities of the organization and on the situation with sexual minorities rights in the country.

 

28th of April 2005 BLL Council sent an open letter to the Central Committee of the Communist Bolshevik Party as a reaction on the fact that the party excluded a member who were distributing materials about the discrimination of LGBT people in Belarus .

 

3–10th of April 2005 the European Youth Center in Strasbourg ( France ) hosted the study session “Bullying and Isolation: Understanding and Developing an Inclusive Social Policy to Combat Exclusion of LGBT Students in Education”, prepared by the IGLYO network that one BLL representative attended.

 

From 4th - 8th May more than 80 representatives from 36 European countries, participated in the UNITED conference, “Dissolving barriers” in Rieti , Italy . UNITED, an European network consisting out of more than 560 NGOs who are against nationalism, racism, fascism and other forms of discrimination. BLL and Tretya Zmena network representative attended the conference.

 

7th of May an antifa-evening “Wir sind aus Berlin ”, dedicated to the 60 th anniversary of the Victory in the World War II, took place in “ Babylon ” club.

 

9th of May 2005 BLL manifested at the “Trostenets” memorial complex in the memory of gays and lesbians victims of Hitler occupation. A press-release was issued.

 

20th of June 2005 the extraordinary BLL conference took place in Minsk , the new Board was elected, Sergey Torpachev took over a post of the Head of the organization.

 

27th of June 2005 BLL activists won a 3-years court process and registered the domain GAY.BY

 

3-13th of August 2005 BLL representatives took part in the Ecotopia meeting (organized by EYFA network) and co-leaded the workshop “Non-Formal Journalism in Belarus ” ( Saharna , Moldova )

 

30th of September 2005, BLL representative participated in the roundtable «New forms of Homophobia in Eastern and Central Europe», that took place in Kiev , Ukraine .

 

1-2th October 2005 in the framework of the international conference of LGBT-initiatives “Our world: extending the borders” in Kiev BLL representative took the floor. The conference was organized by the Ukrainian Informational and right-defending Center for LGBT “Our World” (see http://www.gay.org.ua/conference2005).

 

26th of October 2005 BLL representatives took part in the meeting of the local youth discussion club at the regional NGO “Novaya Ziamlia” and presented BLL's activities and publications.

 

5-7th of November 2005 the experimental festival “Gender Itinerary”, co-organized by WIC “Interforum”, Women Social Forum and BLL took place, with the participation of the Center of Gender Studies at EHU (see http://imc-by.hardcore.lt/1530).

 

28th of December 2005 – traditional conclusive BLL board meeting in Minsk : summing up 2005's achievements, 2006's activities planning.
